If the client (or) customer data backup size is more than 150GB than we will opt for LANFREE Backup. In LANFREE Backup actual data goes to TSM DB via LAN and the actual data directly goes to Tape Library through fiber channel.
To implement LANFREE Backup we need to zone tape drives to the LANFREE client. This zoning work will be done by the storage team. Once the tape drives are zoned to LANFREE client we need to install tape drive drivers (LTO) drivers in the LANFREE client then only the client will recognize the tape drive hardware.
SERVER SIDE CONFIGURATION FOR CONFIGURING LANFREE BACKUP:
1) We need to register the client (or) node for which we are configuring the LANFREE Backup in the TSM Server. Use below command for the registering node.
Reg node nodename nodepassword domain=domainname userid=none datareadpath=lanfree datawritepath=lanfree
2) We need to register storage agent server as server in the TSM Server by using below command:
Def server servername serverpassword serverHLAaddress=IP address of Client
ServerLLAaddress=portnumber of Client commmethod=TCPIP
In the above command the parameters areas below:
HLA address: High Level address= IP Address of client
LLA address= Low level address= Port number of client
3) Once we define the server then we need to define the drive path for the tape library as in LANFREE actual data directly moves to Tape library from the client (or) customer. Use the below command to define the tape drives.
Define path sourcename destinationname source=server destination=drive
library=libraryname device=devicename online=yes
Here parameters are as below:
Sourcename= client (or) customer node name
Destination Name= Tape drive Name
Destination Drive
Library=Library Name
4) We need to define Tape drive path for each and every tape drive that is zoned to the client (or) customer.
CLIENT SIDE CONFIGURATION
1) We need to install B/A client software in the client (or) customer node.
2) Then we need to install storage agent software in the client (or) customer node in which we need to configure LANFREE Backup.
3) Once we installed storage agent software in the client (or) customer node then the client (or) customer machine will be acting as TSM Server.
4) Now we need to define the storage agent server as a server in the TSM Server to configure server-server communication
5) The default installation location of B/A client is:
C:\programfiles\tivoli\tsm\baclient
6) There we can see client configuration file “dsm.opt” in that file we need to enter the following entries:
Nodename Nodename (LANFREE Server Node Name)
TCPServeraddress IP Address of TSM Server
Commmethod LANFREE
Portnumber 1500
Passwordaccess generate
EnableLANFREE yes
7) The default location of storage agent in the client (or) customer machine is
C:\programfiles\tivoli\tsm\storgaeagent
8) There we can see configuration files “dsmsta.opt” and “devconfig.txt”.
9) We need to make some changes in those files.
10) In “dsmsta.opt” we need to make the following changes:
Servername TSM Server Name
11) In “devconfig.txt” file we need to enter the below entries:
Set storageagentname storageagentname
Set storageagentpassword storageagentpassword
Set storageagentHLAaddress storageagentHLAaddress
Set storageagentLLAaddress storageagentLLAaddress
12) Once the above entries are made we need to set the password for the storage agent server. For that go to storage agent default directory and there we will find a application by name “dsmsta”. We need to open that application and then we fill find a command prompt opened there we need to enter the userid and password of the storage agent as we specified in the TSM Server while defining it in the TSM Server.
13) Once the password is set we need to check the communication between Storage Agent server and the TSM Server by using the below command:
Q Sess
14) Now go to B/A Client and open the command line for the B/A Client and then provide the userid and password of the client which we used while registering the client machine in the TSM server.once we provide the username and password automatically communication establishes between client and TSM Server.
15) We can check the communication between B/A client and TSM Server using the below command.
Q sess
Once the LANFREE Backup is set we need to handover it to the Oracle DBA team they will configure “RMAN” backup’s using RMAN scripts in the oracle platform.
Hence we need to follow the above procedure to configure LANFREE Backup in the TSM Server.

3) Once we define the server then we need to define the drive path for the tape library as in LANFREE actual data directly moves to Tape library from the client (or) customer. Use the below command to define the tape drives.
Define path sourcename destinationname source=server destination=drive
library=libraryname device=devicename online=yes
Here parameters are as below:
Sourcename= client (or) customer node name
Destination Name= Tape drive Name
Destination Drive
Library=Library Name
4) We need to define Tape drive path for each and every tape drive that is zoned to the client (or) customer.
